During my internship with the department of Science at the University of Belize, I led the design and development of a water-sensing system using an Arduino board, buzzer, and LED light. I managed the entire project lifecycle, from coding the system in C++ using the Arduino IDE to constructing its physical casing and welding the mounting frame. My work involved a range of tools, including Arduino hardware, soldering wire, a welding machine, and an angle grinder. The resulting prototype offers a practical solution for real-world NRM applications, enabling efficient water level monitoring and supporting the department’s ongoing environmental initiatives.This project also provided valuable exposure to the engineering aspects of computer science and highlighted opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration between technical and environmental fields.

The knowledge gained from my coursework in web development, systems analysis, and hardware fundamentals proved invaluable, enabling me to effectively carry out my responsibilities and contribute to the organization's IT infrastructure.

I also conducted a comparative analysis of R Shiny hosting platforms (Posit Connect, ShinyProxy, self-hosted), evaluating cost, memory usage, and concurrency, and drafted a recommendation report. These projects honed my front-end development and CMS management skills, deepened my understanding of cloud-hosting trade-offs, and reinforced collaborative workflows in a research environment.
